Women who are harassed, at work, on the street, or even online, are subject to the same rigid purity standards as women who are sexually assaulted, Just by virtue of being out in public, we're overstepping certain boundaries ” (quote by Jessica Valenti).

When we were little we were taught that “sticks and stones can break my bones, but words cannot harm me”.  In reality, words and actions do harm a person, whether directly or indirectly.  I have been reading articles lately and came across many stories where bulling and harassment has been so bad, that victims resort to suicide.  The world is cruel, and if no one makes a stand, nothing will change.

Harassment is where one person engages in any unreasonable conduct whether online or otherwise which causes mental, psychological, physical or economic harm to another person.

Harassment includes cyber stalking and online bullying. Technology should not be used as a tool to hurt and create conflict. I have two nieces, and to think that they will soon be able to be exposed to technology and be victims to harassment; stalking and bullying online is frightening.

As a woman, I find that posting inappropriate images or comments about woman are to easily brushed off. This is a form of sexual harassment.  We need to make a stand, if everyone says “I will not take that anymore”, it will make a difference.  If you are a victim to any forms of harassment, bulling; stalking etc. speak up and put a stop to it.  You will not only find protection for yourself, but for those who do not have the strength to stand up for themselves.

The Protection from Harassment Act offers a special process where a court order can be made without the immediate knowledge of the person who is harassing the complainant, based only on the complainant’s side of the story, as long as the court is satisfied that there is real evidence that

the complainant is being or may be harassed and that harm is or may be suffered if the protection order isn’t granted immediately.

Unless and until our society recognizes cyber bullying for what it is, the suffering of thousands of silent victims will continue” (quote by Anna Maria Chavez)

The moment we give up, is the moment you let the harasser win!
