Words cannot express how Dr Plancher feels about his patients. Not only does he provide excellent care and treatment but he is also a very good dresser.

Last summer I destroyed my knee playing basketball but Dr. Plancher performed an ACL reconstruction, osteochondral allograft and medial meniscus repair. Not only is Dr. Plancher a top surgeon, he also guides you through the recovery process and gets you back on your feet asap (while minimizing risk of re-tear). Dr. Plancher shows he cares and makes you WANT to follow your physical therapy routine and recover quickly. I’m now easing my way into sports with ZERO pain in my knee only 9 months out of surgery. If you go anywhere else, you’re making a mistake.

There’s not enough great things I can say about Dr. Plancher and his staff. Dr. P has fixed me time and time again, getting me back to all my activities including ice hockey and racquetball. Every time I see him he listens to what I have to say, takes his time in examining me, and always explains to me what needs to be done. His office manager, Chrisitina, is amazing. She’s completely on top of things. Plancher Orthopedics is by far the best medical office I have ever been to and I highly recommend them.

My husband has been a patient of Dr. Plancher for many years. I accompany him for many of his appointments. When Dr Plancher performed surgery on him, he spoke to me after the surgery and explained how everything went. He always spoke to me with respect and explained everything to me so I would understand. Words cannot say enough of what a unbelieveable and caring practice Dr PLancher and his staff are. They are the most caring and helpful staff . The go far beyond their duties to assist their patiences. We live in New Jersey. The traffic and the parking situation In NYC is very trying and difficult. Once you enter the office you know that you are in the best place for all Orthopaedics needs. Dr. Plancher reaches out to doctors himself to make sure you are getting the best care possible.
Dr Plancher and his staff make you feel as though you are the only patient that they have.
I highly recommend Plancher Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine.

Dr Plancher takes great care, making sure the X-Rays are done perfectly so that he can see what is going on beneath the skin. His physical examination is thorough and on point, as are his questions. Totally professional.

I have been a patient of Dr. Plancher for over 15 years and he and his entire Staff have been excellent providing outstanding care.

Dr. Plancher is very thorough in his assessment of the whole person not just your injury, this set him apart from others.

I value his expertise and trust his diagnosis, and plan of treatment from pre-surgery to total rehabilitation.

Thank you Dr. Plancher for treating my knee injuries recently with have a partial knee replacement in one leg and a complete replacement of the knee in my other leg, These procedures have made walking a comfortable experience once again!

Hist staff is outstanding and goes above and beyond to make the administrative side of the procedure easy as possible coordinating all aspects of the treatment plan.

I have received excellent diagnoses, procedures and care at Plancher Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine. Dr. Plancher has performed two unicompartmental knee replacements (2006 and 2014), and a shoulder replacement (2018). I am pain free with complete range of motion in each joint since each surgical procedure, and fully capable in my chosen activities. Terrific staff, great followup and guidance throughout.

Dr. Planner gave me a new ACL 22 years ago and I was back to marathon training in 3 months. I moved from NYC to New Hampshire but he and his office have stayed in touch to check in. I actually just saw him yesterday to see how it was holding up and he says the MRI/CT/Xrays show that it looks amazing. I was not surprised as, now at 50, I’m not hindered at all - cycling, skiing even some occasional basketball! I lucked out when I got an appointment with Dr. Plancher and his team and I’m grateful to still be in contact. He cares so much about his patients and his passion for his work is unmatched.

Comprehensive FAQs

The knee is the joint between the two longest bones of the body, and the entire weight of the body is transferred to the foot through the knee. The knee is also more prone to injury because its stability decreases as it bends. Click here for more information.

The ACL is one of two ligaments inside the knee joint. This ACL runs from the top surface of the tibia diagonally into the large notch at the end of the femur and prevents the tibia from sliding too far forward underneath the femur. It also helps prevent over-straightening and overrotation of the femur on the tibia.

  1. ”Pop” – Some patients hear or feel a “pop” when the ACL tears.
  2. Immediate onset of swelling
  3. Pain
  4. Instability – Patients often describe a buckling or unstable sensation in the knee.

An ACL injury usually occurs when the knee is sharply twisted or extended beyond its normal
range of motion.

The three grades of ACL injury range from mild to severe.
1. Sprain Trauma to the ligament is relatively minor. Some of the fibers are stretched.
2. Grade II – Partial Tear Trauma to the ligament is more severe. Some of the fibers are torn.
3. Grade III – Complete Tear This is the most severe ACL injury. The fibers of the ligament are
completely torn.
