SASSA Status: Misconceptions

Some misconceptions surround the SASSA R350 SRD grant. By knowing these myths, you can avoid any delays or rejections in your SRD grant.

Immediate approval means payment soon: Most applicants think that they will be paid almost immediately once their SASSA status is approved. There can be delays with processing and disbursement.

Approval Does Not Mean Further Steps Are Needed. Although some believe approval is the last step, additional verifications or documents may be needed before payments can be made.

Approval = Permanent Assistance: It is a common misconception that assistance, once approved, will be permanent. SASSA benefits can change depending on the circumstances.

Assumed eligibility based upon similar cases: People assume that they are eligible if they hear about other people receiving benefits in similar circumstances without understanding the criteria for approval.

Misunderstanding Declined Status : Some people believe that a declined application is a final decision. Applicants can actually appeal the decision or reapply if they have more information.

Assuming Automatic Updating: Individuals can expect that their status will automatically update, without the need to follow-up or provide additional details.

Underestimating Refunds: Many people believe that payments include compensation for waiting periods if the approval process is delayed. This is not always true.

You don't have to inform SASSA of changes: Some beneficiaries assume that they do not need to notify SASSA about any changes to their circumstances after approval (e.g. income, employment), which could lead to incorrect payments or delay.

Expecting an Immediate Answer to Queries: It is a common misconception that SASSA will respond immediately to inquiries or appeals. However, the agency often receives high volumes of requests resulting in delays.

Status Updates Can Be Confusing: If you misunderstand the status updates (such as "pending," "approved," and "processing"), it can lead to inaccurate assumptions about how the application is progressing

Application Status of SRD R350 Expected results

You will receive one of these results when you check the SASSA status. Each result will be explained below, along with its meaning and what you must do.

Completed Application: You have completed your SRD R350 grant application or reapplication. It will be checked each month until it is approved. It does not mean the payment will be made, but it is one step closer.

Status declined: When your SASSA status says Declined, it means you have not met the eligibility criteria, and SASSA rejected your application. SASSA also provides you with a reason why they rejected your application.

SASSA Status Pending SASSA received your application, but they need more time to verify and review your information before they approve it. Your status will be updated once they have completed their checks. You will then be notified if the grant has been approved or not.

Verification of Identity Failed: It means there was an issue verifying your ID. SASSA needed help matching the information you provided with Department of Home Affairs records.

Bank Details Pending: This indicates that SASSA has received your application/reapplication, but you did not provide the banking details or select a preferred payment method. Select your preferred payment method (Cash or Bank), or enter your bank details on the SASSA Website.

Reapplication In Progress: This means you haven't submitted a new application for the SASSA grant R350. Please submit your application via the website. SASSA introduced the R350 grant in response to COVID-19. Later, SASSA expanded it to assist its most needy citizens. The grant is open to all unemployed citizens and those in need.

Pending Period: As the name suggests, this period is always for a particular month. December is pending. This means your verification of reapplication for the specific month in question is still pending. Check your monthly payment status until you receive it.

Approved Period: This period is always for the month in question, as an example. The period approved for January is "period." "Period January approved" means your application has been approved for the month in question. Look for the "payday" field to find out your exact payment date. The field will be empty if the payment has yet to be processed.

Declined Period: This period is always displayed for the month in question, e.g., "period October declined." This means SASSA declined your application for a specific month. You can request a Reconsideration if you believe the stated reason for denial is incorrect and that you qualify for the grant.

Canceled: Your grant has been canceled. You can reinstate your grant by visiting the website.
